Before becoming Oakland Park, the area was briefly incorporated as Floranada on November 25, 1925, an ambitious real-estate development from Florida's 1920s land boom. The project collapsed when its investors pulled out, leaving the few residents in charge of a city that was enormous on paper and had no real funds. Floranada was dissolved, and on July 1, 1929, the new city of Oakland Park was incorporated.
