Living in Palm Beach Gardens

Palm Beach Gardens began in the 1950s with John D. MacArthur's vision. The insurance magnate invested heavily in developing 4,000 acres for a community planned for 55,000 people. MacArthur, a lover of trees, instructed that streets and construction go around the banyans and other mature trees already growing on the land instead of cutting them down — a costly decision that defined the city's tree-lined character, with hundreds of waterways and rolling terrain. It formally incorporated on June 20, 1959.

Today it has 59,182 residents per the 2020 census, with an estimated 63,883 for 2025, in the northern part of Palm Beach County, roughly 80 miles north of Miami.

The city is home to PGA National Resort, which housed the PGA of America's headquarters from March 1965 until 1972, when the association moved to what is today BallenIsles Country Club. The current resort was established in 1980, with five 18-hole courses; the most famous, The Champion, hosted the 1983 Ryder Cup, the 1987 PGA Championship, and has hosted the PGA Tour's Cognizant Classic since 2007. In total, the city has 12 golf courses within its limits.

The Gardens Mall, a 1.4-million-square-foot mall that opened in 1988, and employers including the county school system, Tenet Healthcare, TBC Corporation, ZimVie Dental & Spine and G4S sustain local economic activity.

Palm Beach Gardens has 109 active condos for sale on the MLS today, none of them new construction — it's an entirely resale market. The median price is $369,450, with a median HOA of $709 a month and a median year built of 1989.

That profile places Palm Beach Gardens between the county's more accessible suburbs and luxury coastal enclaves like Palm Beach or Singer Island — sustained by a corporate and golf base that gives the market stability.
