Singer Island was named after Paris Singer, son of sewing-machine magnate Isaac Singer, who originally developed the island as the ambitious 'Palm Beach Ocean' project alongside architect Addison Mizner. The plan included the luxury Blue Heron Hotel, which received a $2 million investment (about $28 million in 2018 dollars) but was left unfinished when Florida's 1920s land boom collapsed. Its shell was razed in 1940 and was eventually replaced by what is today the Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront Resort.
The island isn't a city of its own: most of it lies within the City of Riviera Beach, while the southern tip belongs to the town of Palm Beach Shores. Before the Palm Beach Inlet was cut, Singer Island was directly connected to the island of Palm Beach.
The Tiara, at 42 stories, is the island's tallest tower. It suffered severe hurricane damage in 2004, and residents were displaced until 2008. In recent years, luxury towers like VistaBlue Singer Island, 5000 North Ocean, Ritz-Carlton Residences Singer Island, and Dolcevita have been added.
Singer Island has 4.7 miles of white sand beach and sits minutes from North Palm Beach and West Palm Beach. It connects to the mainland via the Blue Heron Bridge, next to Phil Foster Park, one of Florida's best-known snorkeling spots.
Singer Island has 131 active condos for sale across the MLS today, of which only 2 are new construction — the rest is resale. The median price is $792,500, with a median HOA of $1,835 a month and a median year built of 1977.
That profile places Singer Island among the most expensive oceanfront condo markets in Palm Beach County, sustained by the island's limited land and by iconic towers like the 42-story Tiara, the island's tallest.
